Surprising News Arrives
Early Saturday morning I snuck out of the house before anyone was awake. I had been really tired and stressed lately so i went to the doctor to see what was the matter. Unexpectedly, I found out I was pregnant. At this point in time, I wasn't sure if that was good news or bad news. As soon I got back home, mama and Beneatha started nagging. They wanted to know where I had been and what I had been up too. Before I could even get a word in, Beneatha had guessed I was pregnant. Mama had also received her ten thousand check in the mail. Excitement spread throughout the house. After things started to settle down, I was intending on telling Walter the news but he wouldn't let me have a minute with him. In fact, mama had to sit him down and tell him herself after he threatened to leave. He didn't say much about it. I think he was in shock. Mama even told him I might not keep the baby. I was just unsure of how it would all work out with money tight and all. Mama decided to put a third of the money on a down payment for a house and another third for Beneatha's college fund. She gave the rest of it to Walter to start a checking account. Maybe things could be looking up for the Younger family.
